One of the many benefits of our party’s great success in July is that I now get the privilege of asking the Prime Minister two questions every week at PMQs.

This week, I used my questions to raise the crucial issue of fixing our broken relationship with Europe.

As Liberal Democrats have consistently said, rebuilding the ties of trust, trade and friendship with our European neighbours is essential – especially when it comes to getting our economy back on track.

And a new Youth Mobility Scheme, as put forward by the EU, should be a key part of that. It would be great for young people, great for small businesses, and a big step towards repairing that relationship.

We know how important this is. I’m proud that we proposed a Youth Mobility Scheme as part of our clear, step-by-step plan on Europe in the last Parliament, and recommitted to it at our conference last month.

But so far, the Labour Government has ruled it out. I just don’t understand why. So today I urged Keir Starmer to think again.
