Quixote Center Fall Campaign:
Justice and Dignity for Migrants

The number of people forced to flee their home country due to increased violence and a lack of economic opportunity has been constantly increasing over the past decades. Many are fleeing from areas controlled by cartels using weapons illegally trafficked from the U.S. to terrorize and extort local population, forcing internal displacements and international migration.

Quixote Center's partner, the Franciscan Network on Migration (RFM in Spanish) provides a lifeline for many families who had no other choice but to head north. Since their creation in 2018, the RFM has been opening migrant shelters from Panama to Mexico, providing vital services for families and the most vulnerable migrant populations, and serving as human rights defenders.

The reality is that there are not enough safe spaces for migrants along the corridor as they navigate through some of the most dangerous terrain on the face of the Earth. Organized crime is ubiquitous in these lands, and they prey on migrants passing through their controlled territories.

This is a humanitarian tragedy.

With your generous support, we can bolster RFM's capacity to protect the rights and dignity of migrants as they emerge from the treacherous Darien jungle, by supporting their plan to maintain a permanent presence of human rights observers who will also offer welcome, kindness, information and spiritual support.

In addition, RFM-Panama is supporting the most vulnerable migrants who fell sick or were injured and need time to recuperate. At the Medalla Milagrosa shelter in the city of David, they provide essential health services at no cost to the people they serve. At the same time, RFM-Mexico is inaugurating a new shelter in the central zone of the country where migrants often fall victim to organized crime, providing an oasis of peace while they process their asylum application and wait for their appointment with CBP officials, which can take up to nine months.

We are asking for $20,000 to support these three programs in Mexico and Panama.
In the coming days we will send emails which describe each program in more detail.
Thank you!
