Launch of Why We Get Vaccinated 

On Monday 7 October, a new London-wide campaign, Why We Get Vaccinated, launched. The campaign encourages people in London to have open conversations about the importance of vaccines.

Cllr Kaya Comer-Schwarz, London Councils’ Executive Member for Health, said: ( [link removed] ) "Vaccination is a simple way to protect our families and our communities from disease and keep them well and out of hospital. We recognise that people need help and support to understand the reasons why vaccinations are so important. Armed with that understanding they can then take the steps they need to ensure their families are vaccinated and fully protected."

The three-year programme has been created with local communities, UKHSA, the NHS, London boroughs and ADPH London.

Benefits of circular economy

Our new model illustrates how circular economy principles can create more sustainable and resilient communities in London.

It also highlights real-life examples that are already making a positive impact by reducing consumption emissions and promoting sustainability in the capital.

A circular economy focuses on reducing waste and making better use of resources by reusing, repairing, recycling, and sharing materials and products. This shift from a traditional linear economy creates opportunities for everyone, be they individuals, councils, businesses, and community groups, to contribute to more sustainable neighbourhoods.

'Perfect storm’ blocking thousands of desperately needed social homes

Experts think 90,000 of these homes need to be built every year for a decade to house everyone - but less than 5,000 were completed in the past year.

And there are fears the problem will become even worse.

Several councils have warned they could go bankrupt unless more social homes are built - because of the money they're spending on temporary housing for people on waiting lists.

In the past year they spent more than £1bn on temporary accommodation for people with nowhere else to go.

Cllr Claire Holland, chair of London Councils, said ( [link removed] ): "The housing crisis is "wreaking havoc on town hall finances across the capital" and that “the current outlook is bleak”.
