Friends,
I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating: My opponent is so extreme that I generally don’t believe in giving his offensive ideas free exposure (or subjecting my supporters to them!).
More often than not, his fringe ideology is beyond reasonable discussion and is frankly better off ignored while we focus on the actual issues facing American families.
But earlier tonight, I joined my opponent in a candidate forum to talk about our priorities and where we stand on the issues – and I think it’s worth taking a moment to talk about what Bill Wells really believes.
He’s made it perfectly clear:
He is eager to demonize people who are seeking a safer life for themselves and their families in order to push an extreme right-wing anti-immigrant rhetoric.
He believes that climate change is a hoax that the government is using to control people.
He thinks marriage equality should be overturned, outlawing the fundamental right to marry the person you love.
He doesn’t think anyone should be able to access abortion care, for any reason. (Put another way: He thinks every woman and girl in the country should be forced to carry every pregnancy to term, even if they’ve experienced rape or incest, or if their health or future fertility is at risk. )
He’s a devoted follower of Donald Trump, whose xenophobic, misogynistic, egotistical politics are pushing the GOP down a dangerous path toward authoritarianism – and he still won't admit Trump lost the 2020 election.
This is who Bill Wells is.
Think about that for a minute – really think about what it would mean to have someone who holds these beliefs responsible for fighting for YOUR best interests.
Where is the compassion? Where is the faith in the values that our country was founded on? The belief that our diversity makes us great, and that everyone deserves the freedom and opportunity to thrive?
I am 100% confident that my opponent’s values do not reflect our district. I know the people in our community. They want representation rooted in integrity, policy backed by science, and inclusive, thoughtful leadership.
Bill Wells is an out-of-touch extremist. And here’s the thing – I’m determined to defeat him and win re-election. But that’s not enough. We need to send a message to him and to every extremist around the country that this is not who we are.
We can do that by delivering *resounding* victories at the ballot box in just 28 days.
If you’ve already received your mail-in ballot, I urge you to fill it out and return it ASAP, or go vote early in person ( find a location here [[link removed]] ).
And if you can, I’m asking you to support my re-election campaign with a donation today so I can win big on November 5th. [[link removed]]
Thank you for reading, and for your support. I’m in this work because of you, and I’m proud to work on your behalf every single day.
Sincerely,
Sara
