The climate crisis is supercharging storms and making them more destructive and deadly than ever. We need our elected officials to fully fund emergency relief efforts for those affected by climate disasters.
Weather forecasters warned that this hurricane season would be “extraordinary.”1 Hurricane Helene and now Hurricane Milton are proving that prediction true. Early Monday morning, Hurricane Milton was a Category 1 storm — and it intensified into a Category 5 storm by lunchtime.2
It is no accident that hurricane seasons are becoming more intense. Decades of fossil fuel extraction and subsidies for Big Oil have brought us to this terrifying inflection point for our planet. But enough is enough.
The choice is clear: Either we keep fossil fuels in the ground and protect our people and ecosystems, or we let greed win out and destroy the planet for future generations.
We’re running out of time to prevent further climate destruction, John. We must phase out fossil fuels once and for all. But right now, it’s incredibly urgent that we make sure FEMA has the resources it needs to aid frontline communities devastated by these storms.
