With just four weeks to go until Election Day, we are entering a precarious period for our democracy as conspiracy theories, racist lies and fear-mongering reach a fever pitch. We expect all of this to escalate as vote counts are finalized and far-right extremists continue to spread baseless claims about noncitizen voting and “stolen” elections.

We need media outlets to fight disinformation by accurately and unapologetically reporting on U.S. elections and the state of our democracy. We need tech companies to protect their users from hate speech and deepfakes by restoring content safeguards. That’s why Free Press is committed to our Democracy Is... initiative — and we’re asking you to commit too by adding your name to both of our petitions addressing media and tech leaders:
