Today, I led a bipartisan coalition of attorneys general in filing lawsuits against TikTok for violating state consumer protection laws.

The popular social media platform TikTok exploits, addicts, and harms young users and deceives the public about its dangers. Our investigation found that TikTok cultivates social media addiction to boost corporate profits, intentionally targeting children because they know kids do not yet have the defenses or capacity to create healthy boundaries around addictive content — and that’s hurting kids’ and teens’ mental health.

With 63% of surveyed Americans aged 13 to 17 using TikTok in 2023, and 17% of those teens reporting they were on TikTok “almost constantly,” this is clearly a pervasive issue affecting young generations that must be addressed.

That’s why I’m holding TikTok accountable for the harm it has caused in taking away the time — and childhoods — of our children.
