We’re exactly four weeks from Election Day, and I’m asking you to chip in just $4 to support our Climate Champ of the Week: Ann Johnson Stewart. She’s running in a high-stakes Minnesota State Senate special election that will determine which party holds the majority in the chamber — and decide the fate of climate progress in the state.

The Minnesota Senate is locked at 33-33, and Ann is running to fill the only vacant seat up for election in 2024 — in District 45. Winning this race is critical to holding the Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) majority and advancing the state’s ambitious climate goals. Ann’s win will ensure Minnesota continues to lead on clean energy, EV infrastructure, and vital water protections.

But the stakes go beyond Minnesota:

1️⃣ The climate crisis requires national and local action. While federal legislation is stalled, Minnesota is leading the charge with policies that tackle emissions and protect our environment. But all that progress depends on holding this seat — if we lose it, Republicans will have the votes to immediately begin dismantling Minnesota’s ambitious climate goals, gutting clean energy programs, and rolling back environmental protections. Since climate disasters don’t respect state lines, the impact of their obstruction could ripple far beyond Minnesota’s borders.

2️⃣ National groups are watching. Both parties see the potential impact of this race, and it’s likely to become one of Minnesota’s most expensive legislative campaigns ever. The outcome will either encourage other states to follow Minnesota’s lead or embolden climate obstructionists to reverse our progress.

3️⃣ Ann’s priorities align with our movement. As a civil engineer and former state senator, she knows what solutions science demands and has the experience needed to fight for them in the State Senate. With your support, she’ll continue this work and ensure Minnesota remains a climate leader.
