Dear John:
Have you been following the Nuns on the Bus and Friends “Vote Our Future” tour? Today and tomorrow they will be in Chicago as they transition from the East Coast through the Midwest and on to the Southwest. Our Executive Director, Ana Garcia-Ashley, will be joining the “Vote Our Future” tour this weekend in Phoenix.
We are enjoying hearing from the Nuns and Friends as they blog about their journey. In fact, we have a number of old friends on the bus . . . folks like the Rev. Dr. Starsky Wilson, Children’s Defense Fund; Rev. Adam Taylor, Sojourners; Rev. Dr. Cassandra Gould, Faith in Action Network; Mary Novak, NETWORK Lobby; and our own Sr. Barbara Pfarr, School Sisters of Notre Dame and organizer in Gamaliel’s Wisconsin statewide affiliate, WISDOM.
In her Rider Profile, Ana shared the reason that she is joining this journey: “As a 4th generation Catholic from the Dominican Republic and Director of Gamaliel, a faith-based national organization, it’s my calling to represent our values in the public arena.” She has also issued a challenge to each of us, as people of faith and good will: “As we face what is probably the most consequential election in our lifetime, how will you represent your values in the public arena?”
Feel free to share your response to the challenge with Ana. Most importantly, continue to pray for safety of these travelers and the impact of their journey on communities across this nation.
In solidarity,
Cynthia
Gamaliel Sr. Advisor for Funding Strategies and External Affairs
