Wednesday 26 February Save Consonant! Dear Friend, Consonant (formerly Asylum Aid) is a charity based in London that assists refugees, stateless people, people eligible for British citizenship, and migrants. Our services include legal advice and representation, support services such as English language classes, careers guidance, advice on how to access financial and welfare benefits, policy advocacy, and more. Consonant also has a unique statelessness project and is one of the very few organisations that focus on helping stateless people in the UK. We know everyone is facing huge challenges due to Covid 19. At Consonant our work is continuing apace, albeit remotely, as we continue helping clients who are now relying on us more than ever during this crisis. Many of the people we have helped work in the NHS and other key roles. Recently, our dedicated team of immigration lawyers have had two life-changing breakthroughs. One of our clients, an Albanian victim of trafficking, was granted refugee status for herself and her young daughters. Our client said “All I have it’s because of you. I will never forget what you did for me.” Also, after 9 years, our lawyers finally won the asylum appeal of a political activist from Pakistan. But we are facing a serious funding crisis and will have to shut our doors permanently in a few months if we cannot raise additional funds for our core costs in the next couple of weeks. Our Emergency Appeal is in full swing. There is still time to help to save Consonant! Please help if you can by sharing our Crowdfunder campaign page on your social media accounts and with your personal networks: [link removed] The videos on our Crowdfunder page, along with the comments from those who have given already, including some of our service users, underline why our work is so crucial, particularly in the light of Covid 19. For those of you on Twitter, please retweet the pinned tweet on our profile. Or you could post this proposed tweet, if you prefer: Consonant (formerly Asylum Aid) is a charity that helps #refugees, #migrants, #stateless people, and others in need of protection in the UK. They have launched an emergency fundraising appeal. Pls donate if you can & please RT @Consonant_UK #NeighboursHelp [link removed] A donation of as little as £10 would mean a lot to us; they all add up. All donations made via the Crowdfunder page will be returned to donors if we do not reach our fundraising target and our trustees decide we must close the organisation. We are of course investigating additional sources of funding, but any money we can raise from the public is really crucial.
