Dear MoveOn member,

Today, Trump vetoed the Iran War Powers Resolution, which was passed by
the House and Senate, Democrats and Republicans, to rein in Trump's
ability to wage war with Iran.^1

This is Trump's seventh veto. More than half of those vetos were made to
stop bipartisan efforts to restrain his abuse of power.^2

Once again, Trump chose to expand his own power and ignore the will of
Congress. Trump is choosing war and ignoring the wishes of the American
people.

But this action proves that he is forced to act alone, because we are the
anti-war majority, and our voice was loud and on full display in national
actions to oppose Trump's march to war with Iran.

When Trump ordered the assassination of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani,
he recklessly put countless lives at risk, including U.S. troops in the
region and Iraqi and Iranian civilians. Ever since his withdrawal from the
successful Iran nuclear deal, he's been intent on putting us on a path
toward war.

And MoveOn members, partners, and champions across the country have been
fighting back every step of the way.

In January, we organized rapid-response, visible actions with the National
Iranian American Council, About Face: Veterans Against the War, Win
Without War, and Indivisible to embody the progressive opposition to war
with Iran and amplify our call to end endless wars.

We were joined by Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders,
progressive grassroots leaders, and more than 10,000 activists on a
nationwide call to carve a path forward to a future where we end these
endless wars and prevent unnecessary, reckless new ones.

Enough is enough.

Our pressure is defining a new era of progressive foreign policy. Congress
listened and passed a bi-partisan War Powers Resolution to stop an
unconstitutional, unauthorized, and dangerous war with Iran.

MoveOn members have joined with Americans of all walks of life to demand
diplomacy, condemn and end wars, and rein in abuse of power by the White
House. The American people want diplomacy, not endless war—and our growing
movement has won bipartisan votes in both houses of Congress to block
Trump's reckless warmaking.

This is not Trump's first veto to protect his power.

Last March, he was forced to veto a bipartisan bill that would have ended
his fake "national emergency" power grab, which he declared to seize funds
for his racist border wall. And in April, he vetoed a bipartisan measure
that would have ended U.S. support for the Saudi war on Yemen, which has
led to a humanitarian crisis and the displacement and famine affecting 17
million Yemenis.^3

In each of these cases, MoveOn members have been part of the movement to
create the national pressure, funneling our outrage into action. It builds
on a long history of MoveOn involvement in fighting for diplomacy and
against war—from our years of work opposing the war in Iraq to our efforts
to stop President Obama from bombing Syria to our successful advocacy for
the historic and successful Iran nuclear agreement.
As we move forward, we're looking to Vice President Biden to show
leadership to oppose Trump's provocations to war and to champion an agenda
centered on diplomacy with Iran and around the world.

We'll continue to support political leaders who are ready to stand for
diplomacy, not war—and Trump's veto won't stop this movement from
growing.

Thanks for all you do.
