Ready to get out the vote for Proposition 5 and Measure A! |

Dear John,
Ballot drop-off boxes for the 2024 federal, state, and local elections open today. From now through November 5th, Californians will vote for the kind of future we want to build together. In addition to key national issues, there are critical decisions we must make about our state and cities – decisions that, frankly, are much more likely to impact our daily lives. Your vote on these local issues matters immensely—and corporations know it. That’s why, for the first time, LAANE is issuing a voter guide to inform decision-making on state propositions and local ballot measures. These issues have the potential to radically alter our collective effort to build an economy that works for everyone—not just those corporate interests. There are three measures in particular that LAANE is committed to winning, measures that will help us tackle the affordable housing crisis and build better schools and infrastructure that benefit everyone. Until election day, we will be knocking on doors and talking to voters across L.A. County to make sure to get out the vote for Measure A, Measure US, and Proposition 5.

| ✅ YES on Measure A:
No one should have to choose between paying for shelter or meeting basic needs such as food and healthcare. Yet, many have no other option as wages fail to keep up with rising housing costs and we grapple with a huge lack of affordable housing. L.A. County Measure A will continue funding for homeless services and provide a new permanent funding source for affordable housing. This means we can help prevent homelessness from occurring in the first place and also ensure over 49,000 people can continue to access lifesaving housing services and mental health care.

|
| ✅ YES on Measure US:
Currently, LAUSD is facing $80 billion in unfunded fixes and climate upgrades to our school system. More resources will be needed, but this $10 billion bond is a crucial first step in investing in our schools and our future, and it will help create thousands of union construction jobs with the potential to employ LAUSD grads and their families. A significant portion of bonds can and would cover climate improvements, including $1.25 billion earmarked for increasing campus green space like gardens and shade.

|
| ✅ YES on Proposition 5:
California is facing a massive shortage of affordable housing and a backlog on critically needed repairs for public infrastructure like roads, water, transit and emergency services. Voters strongly prefer local solutions to these problems, but state law restricts the ability of local voters to approve housing and infrastructure bonds for their communities. Prop 5 makes it easier for voters to pass local bonds, creating opportunities for union construction jobs, more affordable housing for low- and middle-income Californians, and more public infrastructure needed to support new affordable housing and safe communities. It also requires strict accountability and oversight for local bonds.
