DNR Seeking Public Input On 2024 Draft Water Management Program Review & Water Use Efficiency Goals And Objectives
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking comments on two draft items related to Wisconsin’s water management, conservation and efficiency efforts under the Great Lakes Compact.
The Great Lakes Compact is an agreement among the eight Great Lake states: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and Wisconsin, aimed at implementing aligned water management programs in the Great Lakes Basin, with a companion agreement that includes the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec.
Wisconsin’s 2024 Draft Water Management and Water Conservation and Efficiency Program Review must be submitted to the Great Lakes Compact in December. This review provides an opportunity for both Compact Council members and the public to assess how each member state implements the Compact’s terms within their water management programs.
Wisconsin’s Water Conservation and Water Use Efficiency Goals and Objectives guide the state’s water conservation and efficiency program and were last reviewed in 2019.
Both the water conservation goals and objectives and the draft water management review are available on the DNR’s Great Lakes Compact and Diversion webpage.
Written comments on these two documents will be accepted through Nov. 15, 2024, and can be emailed to [email protected] or sent by mail to:
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources C/O Shaili Pfeiffer P.O. Box 7921, DG/5 Madison, WI 53707
The DNR will review comments before submitting its final program review to the Great Lakes Compact Council in December 2024.
