John,
Election officials across the nation are speaking out about an unprecedented wave of pressure and intimidation.
They’re doing this because, sadly, election offices have faced harassment and even threats since the 2020 election, much of it stemming from false claims made by election deniers. [1]
Our devoted election officials in Pennsylvania are the backbone of our democracy, and we can’t let them down when they need us the most. That’s why we’re doubling our nonpartisan efforts to support these heroes.
Every election year, Common Cause Pennsylvania mobilizes dozens of volunteers to protect voters — at the polls and online — from suppression, disinformation, and intimidation.
Our two-prong strategy starts long before Election Day, fighting election misinformation by pairing an army of trained online volunteers with expert reviewers — working together to flag posts for removal on social networks.
We find harmful misinformation where others can’t reach — like private Facebook groups that serve as notorious breeding grounds for election lies, and work to stop these posts before they can spread or lead to more threats against election workers.
During early voting and on Election Day, we station nonpartisan monitors across Pennsylvania to help eligible voters cast their ballot, report any issues in real-time, and back up the dedicated poll workers to whom we are all indebted to.
Common Cause has been protecting voters for decades, so we don’t have any illusions that this will be easy work — especially in the heightened, deeply partisan environment of today.
That’s why we’re scaling up our efforts in Pennsylvania over the next few weeks — to nip disinformation in the bud before it can spread, and build a colossal network of volunteers to protect voters this fall.
But preparing each volunteer by training, equipping, and supporting them from primaries, through early voting, to Election Day costs about $50 — an investment that can protect thousands of voters from online disinformation and intimidation at the polls.
John, you’ve heard about how election officials are under siege every day from extremists nationwide. You’ve heard about how we can – and must – fight back. Will you support a volunteer today to help STOP this scourge on our democracy in Pennsylvania?
Our election officials and election staff put their values into action: working every day to ensure voters have a voice and our democracy continues to function. Now it’s time to do our duty as citizens and help them fight back.
Thank you for your support and for all you do for our democracy.
