Dear John,
This week, Amazon is rolling out the discounts for their Prime Big Deal Days and reeling in big profits. But for the workers packing and shipping those deals, these days are grueling and dangerous. We’re working to change that, and we need your support.
This time last year, there was a 37% spike in worker injuries during the sale. With an influx of orders, workers are pressured to move quickly, lifting and twisting repeatedly for long hours. And with massive, football field-sized warehouses, traveling across the floor for breaks can be near-impossible.
When worksites are designed to process thousands of items a day, safety often goes by the wayside, causing sprains, muscle strains, tendonitis, and worse.
Workers are taking action, organizing across the country and building power so they can protect themselves.
And here in New York, we have a powerful solution: the Warehouse Worker Injury Reduction Act, which we passed through the State Legislature in June. It would mandate safety standards across the industry and require warehouses to be evaluated every year for injury risks.
