You've probably seen news stories reporting on the CARES Act. Most stories about it, however, emphasized only some parts of the legislation. You might find the complete picture alarming.

Thankfully, the CARES Act allocated $100 billion to hospitals and other healthcare providers, and included one-time payments of $1,200 to some—but far from all—Americans.

Outrageously, the law also included a massive tax cut for around 43,000 individual taxpayers, 85% of whom make over $1 million per year. Each of them will enjoy a windfall averaging $1.6 million each.

At a time when so many Americans are struggling to meet basic needs, our elected leaders should be working to help—instead of handing out checks to their wealthy friends.
