The Georgia Supreme Court just reinstated Georgia’s six-week abortion ban while the state appeals a lower court’s decision to throw it out mere days ago.
The news is devastating, not just for patients in Georgia, but for millions of people across the southern states who have very few — if any — paths to access abortion care.
This decision comes after a ProPublica report confirmed that two Georgia women lost their lives because of this very ban.
We launched Care Is Not Criminal in 2022 to elect pro-choice judges, DAs, and other criminal legal officers, because these are the people so often deciding the future of abortion bans.
State supreme courts have the power to restore abortion rights too.
In 2020, we helped flip the Michigan State Supreme Court to pro-choice control. That Court then cleared the way for a pro-choice ballot measure in 2022 that ultimately enshrined abortion rights in Michigan.
Right now, we’re working to win state supreme court races in places like Ohio and North Carolina, and to defend our victories in places like Michigan.
