That didn’t take long. A federal judge just blocked the law Newsom signed to ban parodies of himself and Kamala Harris. This comes after my Floor Speech on why Newsom’s absurd law is both unconstitutional and a classic authoritarian move.
And there’s more good news. For the 4th straight time, Republicans have increased their share of registered voters in California while Democrats lost ground. Extreme one-party rule has wrecked havoc on our beautiful state. But the tide is turning and common sense is returning.
This comes as a new LA Times poll shows Prop. 36, our initiative to make crime illegal again, passing by an astounding 40 percent margin. Newsom has been leading the No campaign – to the great benefit of the Yes campaign.
Indeed, we are seeing a total repudiation of the reckless policies Kamala and Newsom unleashed on our state. Voters are also about to overwhelmingly oust George Gascón as LA District Attorney and recall the DA for Oakland in the middle of her term.
Meanwhile, in some great news, our landmark legislation to protect Lake Tahoe has been signed into law. The Lake Tahoe Restoration Act is vital for forest management, fire protection, and preserving this national treasure. You can watch our press conference on the mountain.
Yet there remains plenty of insanity in Sacramento. Newsom just made it illegal in California to require a voter ID. Not long ago, it was illegal to serve a cup of coffee without requiring an ID (and matching medical records).
Still, our movement for sanity keeps gaining momentum, as seen in the enormous turnout for this weekend’s Get Out the Vote event. Thank you for believing that California is worth fighting for and America is worth saving.
