Anniversary of October 7: A Call for Vigilance and Readiness

SPRINGFIELD – As we approach the anniversary of October 7, we encourage the public to stay vigilant and prepared. While there are no current credible threats in Illinois, state agencies are working closely with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security (IEMA-OHS) and the Illinois State Police (ISP) to maintain heightened security.

"As Governor, it is my top priority to keep our residents safe," said Governor JB Pritzker. "My administration continues to stay vigilant, working closely with IEMA-OHS and the Illinois State Police to protect our communities from intolerance and violence. Hate has no home here in Illinois, and we remain committed to that promise."

Illinois remains committed to fostering communities built on diversity, respect, and security. We will continue working tirelessly to ensure everyone feels safe, valued, and protected.

“I urge everyone to stay alert, be safe, and know how to contact public safety,” said Alicia Tate-Nadeau, Governor’s Homeland Security Advisor and Director of IEMA-OHS. “Your vigilance is key to keeping communities safe.”

Illinois rejects any violence to spread fear as all public safety professionals remain dedicated to protecting religious institutions and schools in all communities.

"The Illinois Statewide Terrorism and Intelligence Center continuously works with federal, state, local, and private sector partners to monitor for threats and suspicious activities," said ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly.  "ISP continues to prepare for all contingencies and reminds the public to be vigilant.  If you see something concerning, report it to law enforcement."

The public can help by sharing suspicious activity messaging within their communities, utilizing resources from both the State and Federal Government. Early reporting is crucial to preventing harm, and it's important to remember that factors such as race, ethnicity, gender, national origin, disability, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity are not indicators of suspicious activity.
