Friend, you might think I'm nuts when I say I'm going to tell you a story about voting rights and McDonald's – but today is the last day to register to vote in Ohio, so stick with me here.
I believe that voting is one of our most fundamental rights as Americans and that democracy only works when we're all able to make our voices heard. So back in the day as Ohio's secretary of state, I set out to register as many eligible voters as possible.
A huge part of running any successful campaign is meeting people where they are – so that's exactly what I did: I reached out to McDonald's and got them to print voter registration forms on their tray liners, like the one here.
Some of them came back with ketchup and mustard stains, but we were honored to accept them. The Washington Post even called our voter registration efforts "the most intensive and wide-ranging in the nation."
I've fought my whole life to protect and expand voting rights – and with the GOP currently waging war on everything from voter ID laws to mail-in and early voting, I promise I'm not stopping anytime soon.
But I need your help to keep up the fight, friend. Polls show me narrowly trailing my Trump-backed opponent, and with voter registration ending today, we're running out of time to turn this around. This is my toughest reelection yet, and this race will decide Senate control.
So please, I'm personally asking: Will you chip in $5 or more now to win in Ohio and defend the Senate so we can continue fighting for voting rights?
Thanks for giving whatever you can.
