Dear John, I’m Ricki Ruiz, Representative for HD 50. Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to honor the history, culture, and contributions of the Hispanic community here in Oregon and across the country. This month holds a special place in my heart. My story, like so many in our community, is rooted in hard work, perseverance, and family. Growing up in Gresham, with parents who worked in agriculture for over 25 years before retiring, I learned the value of dedication and resilience. Being the first in my family to graduate from high school and earn a bachelor's degree wasn’t just a personal milestone – it was a testament to the dreams and sacrifices of so many who came before me. That’s why I’ve always felt called to give back, from my days on the Reynolds School District Board of Directors to serving as one of the youngest members of the Oregon House of Representatives. As we honor our heritage this month, I reflect on the work we’ve accomplished together: fighting for better education, supporting small businesses, and ensuring the safety of our neighborhoods. Now, as Co-Chair of the BIPOC Caucus, I am more committed than ever to uplifting all communities in Oregon.
