Prior to her work with NVAHA, Amanda was a part of the team at Cornerstones, working in community building, community organizing, coalition building, and most recently serving in
the role of Advocacy and Public Policy Director. As the Advocacy and Public Policy Director, Amanda worked to develop Cornerstones’ advocacy platform; organize events including candidates’ forums, panel discussions with elected officials, policy forums, and annual trips to Richmond to visit the Virginia General Assembly; share budget and policy testimony as well as calls to action with Cornerstones advocacy network; and center Cornerstones’ advocacy work around the voices and lived experiences of our community. Amanda also served as Cornerstones first Lead Organizer for Opportunity Neighborhoods-Reston.
Amanda is passionate about driving systemic change to create more equitable opportunities within our Northern Virginia communities. She feels strongly that this can be and should be a community where all our neighbors can thrive. Prior to her work in the non-profit industry, Amanda served for eight years as a program manager and officer with the Department of Homeland Security.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from George Mason University and a Bachelor’s Degree from Virginia Tech. She is a mom of two school-aged kids (ages 6 and 9) and one black Lab. She grew up in and still lives in Herndon, VA.
