It’s been well over a year since the revelations about Clarence Thomas’s luxury vacations were revealed by ProPublica. It’s been five months since the New York Times revealed that a “Stop the Steal” flag was on display at Justice Alito’s home.

Neither of them recused themselves from cases where their impartiality was in question. And though the Court adopted an ethics code, it has no enforcement mechanism and is not binding. Clearly, we still have a lot of work to do to restore public trust in the Court.

For years, CREW has fought for a more ethical Supreme Court—testifying before Congress about ethics reform and submitting testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Filing criminal complaints to the Department of Justice about Clarence Thomas’s undisclosed luxury travel. Calling on Clarence Thomas to resign. Sending a letter to Chief Justice Roberts calling on him to immediately create an enforcement mechanism for the Supreme Court Code of Conduct. And finally, calling on Justice Samuel Alito to resign last summer after he failed to recuse from January 6th related cases.

We’re not giving up on our fight to bring meaningful ethics reform to the highest court in the land.
