Dear Friend –
With the U.S. elections just weeks away, deepfakes—AI-generated videos, images, and audio that blur the line between truth and fiction—pose a grave threat to democracy.
From deceptive and fake AI-generated photos of President Donald Trump to Elon Musk sharing a manipulated campaign video with AI-generated audio of Vice President Kamala Harris, there’s no doubt that deepfakes are already posing a serious threat to our shared sense of what is real – and to our democratic integrity. [1][2][3]
These platforms, with their massive reach, have a responsibility to protect users and our democracy by:
- Prohibiting deceptive deepfakes of election officials, processes, and candidates.
- Requiring clear labeling of all AI-generated political content.
- Partnering with researchers to track and combat the spread of electoral deepfakes.
Thank you for taking action,
