Public Transit, Public Good: Reduced Fare Program for Low-Income Makes Big Impact
We are one month into the launch of the Income-Eligible Reduced Fare Program in Massachusetts, aimed at providing eligible low-income residents with affordable public transportation options. So far, over 6,000+ people have applied and been pre-approved online, with more than 115+ registrations completed at in-person service center sites. Additional service centers are expected to open this month to accommodate the growing demand and ensure access to the program to MA residents. The strong interest from thousands of residents highlights the critical need for accessible transportation solutions.
The Public Transit, Public Good coalition won and secured over 25 million dollars of funding for the program in the state budget to be operationalized this Fall, this reduced fare program is designed to make commuting more affordable and accessible for all, ensuring that everyone can utilize the transit system without financial strain, and take public-transit more often.
If you or someone you know could benefit from this program, we encourage you to spread the word, find out more information on eligibility and how to register, learn more here.
