10 years ago, hundreds of thousands of people marched in the streets of NYC to demand climate justice. It was the largest climate march in history and a rallying cry for serious action in the face of a warming planet and the ultimate existential crisis.

ALIGN published an op-ed over the weekend about what came after — a generation of activists, coalitions united for action, and nation-leading climate laws.

But now…Mayor Adams and Governor Hochul are stalling our progress. And we need your support to keep fighting to change that.

In NYC, we work with environmental justice partners and labor unions like IBEW Local 3 to clean up our polluting buildings, with workers and impacted communities at the forefront. It’s the most impactful thing we can do to mitigate the climate crisis in a city where buildings create 70% of our emissions. But NYC is already set to miss its first deadline as the climate clock ticks down.

We have solutions. Investing in green energy upgrades in our public schools would make a huge dent in the work that needs to be done. But there’s a long road ahead. 

This fall, we’re honoring one of IBEW’s leaders, Benjamin Arana, at our annual Movement Builders Awards fundraiser to kickstart our next year of campaigning to win Green, Healthy Schools and more urgent climate action. We hope you can join us to celebrate the last decade of progress and build our green energy future together.
