The COVID-19 pandemic is creating extraordinary challenges to health care systems, public health infrastructure, and global health security worldwide. The fallout could devastate countries in Africa, Latin America, and South Asia, and reverse years of U.S. led efforts to reduce preventable diseases. In response, BPC convened a Global Health Task Force and released a new report on April 24 calling on Congress to provide funding to support vulnerable countries, along with recommendations to enhance American health security moving forward. In addition, BPC has released recommendations for relaxing social distancing, based on lessons learned from abroad. For more on BPC’s policy solutions to meet the challenges of COVID-19, click here.

In response to the challenges of COVID-19, the group released a series of immediate recommendations to address critical mental health needs facing the country. Moving forward, the task force will focus on policy solutions to address workforce limitations, delivery and payment models, and health IT. A final report will be released later this year.
