Friend,
The devastation wrought by
Hurricane Helene in the Southeast can’t be overstated. There are
thousands of people who are cut off from the outside world, trying to
survive without food, without fresh water, without access to vital
medical care. There are still many missing and the real death toll
isn’t yet known. Disasters like this show that climate crisis is not
some future hypothetical, climate crisis is here
now.
Kamala Harris made
a brief appearance in North Carolina to say the government was ready
to give $750 to survivors who qualified - a paltry amount that will
barely begin to cover survivors’ urgent needs. The Biden-Harris
administration has no problem sending billions upon billions of
dollars of taxpayer dollars to fund their proxy war in Ukraine and
Israel’s genocidal land grabs. But when disaster strikes the American
people, they throw a few crumbs along with their thoughts and
prayers.
We’ve already seen this callous response too many times. Flint,
Michigan still doesn’t have clean water after a decade. The victims of
the wildfires in Lahaina, Hawaii were given a mere $700. The residents
of East Palestine, Ohio are still being poisoned. Our government puts
corporate greed over human need and we’re all more vulnerable than
ever before. When George W. Bush ignored and insulted the victims of
Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans back in 2005, the Democratic Party
was up in arms. Now they’re busy making excuses as the Biden-Harris
administration responds with the same indifference and neglect to the
victims of Helene.
It doesn’t have to be this way. We need
transformative change and real democracy that works for the people. We
need a real Green New Deal to prepare for the climate disasters that
are already in the pipeline, and to keep these disasters from getting
much worse. We need to take our money that’s going to bomb people
around the world and invest it here at home to take care of our people
and fix our crumbling infrastructure. Stein/Ware is the only choice
that is prepared to address these life and death issues on day one of
their administration.
Friend,
the American people have shown time and time again that we’ll be there
for each other when we’re in need even as our government turns their
backs on us to enrich their billionaire donors at the expense of the
people. Can you dig deep today to help the victims of Hurricane Helene
survive in these trying times?
