My amazing wife and partner Mary is a hospice nurse. For years, she's shared powerful stories with our family. Patients struggling. Families holding together. Powerful, spiritual journeys for everyone involved. For her nursing is a calling.
The compassion and care that nurses provide bring a human touch to health care--often during the most difficult or stressful times for the sick and vulnerable.
This was all before our current coronavirus pandemic, before our nation was forced to come together to face a common challenge unlike anything we've faced in generations.
Now, nurses aren't just lifelines, they're on the front lines.
Beside people struggling to breathe. Holding us together when families can't be near their loved ones. Helping us survive this pandemic, one bedside at a time.
My message for our nurses is this: Today on National Nurses Day and every single day, I'm fighting for you.
Before, during, and after this pandemic, there's a constant reality: we need better, more compassionate, more affordable health care options.
Because, there's one question I know our nurses want us to answer:
Wouldn't it be great for every American to know that they and those they love will get the care they need when they are sick or injured, no matter what?
Please sign my petition and tell Congress: It's time for Medicare for All, a simple, seamless, cost-effective health care system that will work for everyone.
