We all want to breathe clean air and protect our families from toxic pollution and unprecedented climate change. To build a livable future, we must shift our transportation from being a massive source of both climate and air pollution to serving as a climate solution.

Together, we can re-envision how we move around in a way that works for people and the planet.

Driving (or Riding) Electric

Chispa Arizona staff celebrate Cartwright School District's electric school bus. The 84-passenger bus is the largest electric school bus in Arizona.

However, electric vehicle sales haven't increased at the pace required to dramatically curb tailpipe pollution and cut oil use in the U.S. It's hard to let go of a 125-year-old technology -- lots of folks circa 1900 were reluctant to give up the horse and buggy. Fear-mongering by the oil and gas industry and their allies hasn't helped. So let's set the record straight: Prices for EVs dropped by 13 percent between 2023 and 2024. New models regularly get 300 miles on a charge. Fast chargers grew by over 30 percent from April 2023 to April 2024. Charging times are way down, too: 30 minutes or less.

Take Action to Electrify Our Future

Transitioning to electric vehicles can create good union jobs while benefiting our health and environment. Companies like Toyota, Subaru, GM, Ford, and Honda must stop blocking progress and shift to clean energy. As consumers, our voices matter! Demand Automakers Stop Fueling the Climate Crisis.

Best Electric Car for Your Budget

Relatively recent Nissan Leafs are selling for around $13,000. The Chevy Bolt will return next year and is expected to be an affordable option--some used models sell for much less than $20,000 after rebate. And many other new options are coming in around $30,000.

But what about charging? According to the Department of Energy, there were more than 68,000 public charging stations across the US last spring, and an additional 900 chargers are opening every week! We're catching up to the nearly 145,000 retail gasoline outlets.
