Get the Facts: The REAL Cost of Illegal Immigration
Since last weekend, more than 160 people have been confirmed deceased after Hurricane Helene ripped through the East Coast. Many of the areas most affected are actually located hundreds of miles inland and were therefore unprepared for the level of devastation they are facing. Entire towns have been swept away, homes destroyed, and countless lives have been lost. It’s times like this the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) kicks into action to rescue individuals and begin the hard work of disaster response. We saw this under President Bush during Hurricane Katrina, President Obama during Hurricane Sandy, and President Trump during Hurricane Irma. In the past two years, FEMA has also been forced to deal with another large problem—illegal immigration, leaving most of their budget dry by hurricane season. FEMA has been tasked with helping to resettle migrants. In May of 2023, FEMA gave New York City more than $30 million to help with illegal migrants. Much of these monies were allocated as a part of FEMA’s shelters and services program which helps to orchestrate the “orderly and humane release of noncitizen migrants from short-term holding facilities” according to their website. In 2024 alone, this program spent more than $640 million dollars. Meanwhile, Secretary Mayorkas has come out recently stating that FEMA does not have enough money to make it through hurricane season. Therefore, while American citizens deal with the loss and devastation of their communities, many of them losing loved ones in the process, they may find themselves left high and dry by the Biden/Harris Administration while illegal migrants are taken care of in places like New York City, Martha’s Vineyard, Denver, CO, Springfield, OH, and countless other communities. Maybe it’s time this administration start putting the American people first and stop the influx at our Southern Border.
