Hi there,
Monday will mark one year since the horrific Hamas attacks on Israel that
killed more than 1,100 people. The intense escalation of conflict that has
followed has created a humanitarian crisis affecting millions of people
across the region. This emergency now continues to worsen with Israel’s
current offensive in Lebanon and ongoing bombardment in Gaza, a barrage of
ballistic missiles fired by Iran toward Israel, and the threat of a wider
regional conflict growing by the day.
As we reflect on the events of the past year — and as our teammates and
partners continue to respond to this crisis — let me be crystal clear
about where we stand at Mercy Corps: No human being anywhere should be
forced to flee their home, drink dirty water, watch their children go
hungry, or live in fear of losing their loved ones at any moment.
All of us at Mercy Corps condemn the loss of life and suffering of
civilians. The ongoing escalation of conflict between Israel, Hezbollah,
and Iran will have dire humanitarian consequences for civilians, and we
will not stop working to deliver critical humanitarian aid to families in
urgent need.

Since the start of this conflict, Mercy Corps has been vehemently calling
for a ceasefire, safe access to humanitarian aid, the safe return of all
hostages, and the protection of all civilians.
Over the past year, Mercy Corps teams and our partners have directly
provided emergency food and other critical items to more than 180,000
people in Gaza. Additionally, Mercy Corps has distributed hot meals, food
baskets, and hygiene kits in 44 villages in Lebanon’s South and Nabatieh
governorates.
Yet, the death toll continues to rise, people continue to starve, disease
continues to spread, and aid workers continue to face deadly threats as
they work to deliver aid to civilians.
We
must not allow the world to become numb to the ongoing atrocities in Gaza
and across the region.

the difficult months ahead.
Sincerely,
TJADA D’OYEN MCKENNA
