Hey Folks,
Project 2025 is something that is talked about in the news quite a bit. It’s an extreme conservative blueprint made by the Heritage Foundation specifically for Trump to use in his second term. Despite Trump’s nonsense claim that he both doesn’t support it and doesn’t know what it is (some of his policies on things like immigration are taken directly from it), the fact that many of its authors worked in his first administration means he’s likely going to enact the policies within it no matter what he says his intentions are.
Unfortunately for us in Iowa, some of the policies listed in Project 2025 are already being tried out by Kim Reynolds and her Republican administration. One of the most notable policies in Project 2025 is a national abortion ban. This is the same kind of ban that was already passed in Iowa, limiting women’s reproductive freedom and forcing them to get care out of state. If a national abortion ban is passed, something else Trump has dodged the question on, then that out of state care will turn into out of country care. That kind of travel would be impossible for most Iowa women to access at all.
Another policy in Project 2025 is allowing all parents to use public taxpayer money to send their children to the private schools of their choice. Vouchers like these are currently devastating Iowa schools, resulting in fewer teachers, less funding, and fewer opportunities for our children. Compounding this problem nationwide will only make Iowa, and America’s education system worse.
And lastly (for this email, not in Project 2025 itself. Bad ideas run aplenty in that blueprint) Project 2025 has a plan for cutting many programs that help provide food assistance to children across the nation. You heard that correctly, they not only want kids to go hungry, they also want to discourage people from feeding them. Kim Reynolds probably relates to this plan the most, considering that she’s already turned down federal aid to feed needy children twice in her career.
Iowa has already suffered under only a fraction of the, quite frankly, evil that is laid out in Project 2025. We cannot trust Donald Trump's toothless word that he won’t enact the plans within it, when all the available evidence says that he will. Iowa is strong, but it's suffered enough, and it should not take any more. We must vote to stop Donald Trump before it’s too late.
Only together do we have the power to save our state and our country.
Sincerely,
IDP Team
