Governor Walz signed Emergency Executive Order 24-10 this week authorizing the Minnesota National Guard to provide emergency assistance to North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Helene.
"Those recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Helene are not alone," said Governor Walz. "Minnesota will be there to support the region however we can. As communities rebuild, I am grateful for the dedication of Minnesota’s first responders in answering the call to travel east to help impacted areas."
"Minnesota is here to help those dealing with the tragic impacts of Hurricane Helene in any way we can," said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan. "We are grateful to those deploying help our neighbors in North Carolina."
Last week, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan toured Pine Tree Apple Orchard in Dellwood to highlight state programs that support farmers and producers dealing with the impacts of climate change.
"Pine Tree Apple Orchard is a great example of how Minnesota's agriculture industry is adapting to climate impacts," said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan. "Whether it's grants for weather protections or incentives for water quality, we're making sure farmers feel supported while meeting our goals for a clean future."
Governor Walz announced over $6 million in new grants to expand access to child care for working families throughout Minnesota. The new grants follow record funding announced in May, and are expected to create thousands of new child care slots.
"Having access to affordable and reliable child care is what allows new parents to get to work. Investments like this help not only that parent, but their employer, their community, and our economy as a whole," said Governor Walz. "These new grants will create thousands of new child care slots and expand support for middle-class families across Minnesota."
"Through historic child care investments, we’re nurturing our children, combating long-standing workforce inequities, maintaining a competitive economy, and building a strong state. With this work we’re taking major strides toward our goal of making Minnesota the best state in the nation for children," said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan. "When we invest in the needs of children and families, we’re building a strong foundation for generations to come."
