Dear Mr. xxxxxx:
Hurricane Helene
Before we get into the newsletter, I just want to say a few things about Hurricane Helene. Our neighbors to the east are hurting right now. During these trying times, we should all be kind to our neighbors and look for ways we can help. I will also be keeping a close eye on FEMA to make sure they get all of the federal resources needed into the areas that have been hit. I also ask that we continue to pray for those who have been impacted.
Congress Continues to Fund Critical Programs

In the House, we were able to pass all twelve spending bills out of the full Appropriations Committee and bring a number of them to the floor. The process was stalled in the Senate, however, as there were no appropriations bills brought to the Senate floor. This presented an issue that needed a solution to ensure Alabamians would continue to have access to critical government programs they rely on. We also needed to make sure that our men and women in uniform continue to get paid.
Speaker Johnson, along with House Republicans, attempted to pass a continuing resolution with the SAVE Act attached. The SAVE Act would prevent non-citizens from registering to vote. In addition to preventing a shutdown of the federal government, this resolution would have prevented any new spending until the next Administration was in place, while also securing our elections by requiring proof of citizenship to vote. I spoke on the floor of the House in support of this measure and highlighted the need for both the SAVE Act and ensuring the federal government stays open, which you can watch above.
Renaming Guntersville VA Clinic for Colonel Ola Lee Mize
A few weeks ago, I was honored to stand on the House floor and offer my bill to rename the Guntersville VA Clinic after Colonel Ola Lee Mize.
Colonel Mize was a native of Alabama’s Fourth Congressional District, born and rasied in Albertville, Alabama. Colonel Mize was awarded the Medal of Honor, two Legions of Merit, the Silver Star, five Bronze Stars, and the Purple Heart for his actions across multiple tours of duty in the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
This bill must now be passed through the Senate before moving to the President’s desk to be signed into law.
Welcoming President Trump to Tuscaloosa
On Saturday, September 28, we welcomed President Trump to Tuscaloosa to watch the Alabama-Georgia football game.
He was treated to an incredible game between the two teams that ultimately ended in a win for the Crimson Tide. President Trump enjoyed his time at the game and I enjoyed the opportunity to have him back in Alabama. I know I speak for a lot of Alabamians when I say we welcome President Trump back to Alabama any time!
New Multipurpose Center in Blount County
In Blount County, I was pleased to attend the ribbon cutting for a new multipurpose center that will house the Auburn Extension Service, the Blount County Economic Development Council, and an Advanced Agricultural Academy through the Blount County Board of Education.
This center will include large meeting spaces to allow for educational instruction and an arena where the Agricultural Academy will be able to hold events. Putting the new facility to good use, Blount County used the new center to house events for the county fair last weekend!
Alabama State Representative Donna Givens Recognized as Angel in Adoption Honoree
I was honored to present Alabama State Representative Donna Givens with a Congressional Angels in Adoption Award earlier this month. State Representative Givens exemplifies exactly what it means to be an Angel in Adoption for her work on protecting Alabama’s children and helping families thrive.
As a freshman in the Alabama State House, Representative Givens championed a bill that increases protections for surrendered infants. Prior to her bill becoming law, infants could only be surrendered at hospitals within seventy-two hours of birth. Representative Givens’ legislation extended that period to forty-five days and enabled fire stations to accept surrendered infants 24 hours per day, if staffed by emergency medical personnel.
Representative Givens’ legislation has, and will continue to, save lives of babies by allowing them to be adopted by families who will care for them and ensure their safety.
Well, that will wrap it up for this month's newsletter. I hope you have a great October. I will be back in touch the first Saturday in November.
May God bless you and your loved ones. Sincerely,
Robert B. Aderholt
