This week marked seven years since the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history. We hope you’ll join us in honoring the lives lost with action, friend.
On October 1, 2017, a gunman used an assault weapon to kill 58 people and wound more than 800 others in mere minutes at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas. Yet seven years later, Congress has failed to ban assault weapons like the one used in this massacre. Since then, we’ve seen hundreds of mass shootings — just this year, we have had over 400 mass shootings. We must refuse to accept this reality.
Assault weapons and large-capacity magazines are weapons of war and exist only to inflict maximum destruction. They are not useful for lawful self-defense or hunting sports. There’s absolutely no reason that everyday civilians need access to them.
When an assault weapon or a large-capacity magazine is used in a mass shooting, nearly 14 times as many people are injured, and twice as many people are killed. And in the 10 years since Congress let the 1994 federal assault weapons ban expire, mass shootings in which six or more people were killed increased by 347%. We know that a federal ban on assault weapons will save lives, and the majority of Americans support this measure. It is past time Congress listens to the American people and protects our communities by passing the Assault Weapons Ban of 2023.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month |
In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we're drawing special attention to the danger of firearms in domestic violence situations and the life-saving solutions to prevent injuries and deaths. Guns are the weapon of choice for domestic violence homicides in America. In fact, every 12 hours, someone is shot and killed by a current or former intimate partner, and female intimate partners are more likely to be murdered with a firearm than by all other means combined.
That is why we at Brady are fighting to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers. And this year, we were victorious in the United States v. Rahimi Supreme Court case. As we kick off Domestic Violence Awareness Month, please join us in learning more about the intersection of firearms and intimate partner violence. |

Our Endorsed Candidates Will Fight for a Safer Future Free From Gun Violence
In the vice presidential debate this week, Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance, acknowledged that gun violence in America is an epidemic. But what Vance failed to recognize is that this epidemic is not inevitable. Instead, his proposed solutions included turning our schools into fortresses by bulletproofing doors and windows and increasing the use of armed guards.
This is not the future we want and it’s not the future our kids deserve. We know that a majority of parents in the U.S. fear that their children’s school could be the site of a mass shooting and that gun violence is a top-ranking issue for voters.
The Brady Campaign has endorsed hundreds of gun violence prevention champions who have demonstrated they will fight for evidence-based policies to help ensure our children don’t have to fear for their lives. Candidates who understand that, as Governor Tim Walz said, sometimes, "it’s just the guns."
Our endorsed candidates include parents, educators, community leaders, doctors, and survivors of gun violence — like Rep. Lucy McBath, Rep. Debbie-Mucarsel Powell, Rep. Steven Horsford, and more — who know all too well the devastating effects of gun violence. In contrast, the gun lobby is fighting to elect candidates who want more firearms in our schools, no regulation on assault weapons, and who promote a “guns everywhere” agenda.
