If you've never heard of the MacArthur "genius grant," it's kind of a big deal: You can't apply for it — you can only be chosen, and the award gives recipients five years to pursue their creative passions.

About 15% of this year's 26 award recipients were LGBTQ+ identified. The group includes a legendary cabaret performer, a mindblowing choreographer, and an editor who is bringing disabled people's experiences to the masses.
