In his Town Hall Sunday night, President Trump correctly noted the fault of the Chinese Communist Party in spreading the Coronavirus epidemic:
Trump pledged the report Sunday in a “virtual town hall” with Fox News, in which he added that he had little doubt that Beijing misled the world about the scale and risk of the disease. Earlier, Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said “enormous evidence” shows the Covid-19 outbreak began in a laboratory in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, without providing evidence to support his claims.
“We’re going to be giving a very strong report as to exactly what we think happened. And I think it will be very conclusive,” Trump said in response to a question about the lab. “My opinion is they made a mistake. They tried to cover it. They tried to put it out, just like a fire.”
Although China has reprimanded Wuhan police for punishing doctors who sounded early warnings about the disease and replaced local officials responsible for the initial outbreak, Beijing says its response has been open and transparent. China’s foreign ministry has cited Trump’s tweets praising Xi’s handling of the outbreak as evidence of U.S. satisfaction with its response.
President Trump has been on top of this from Day One. He knew that the Chinese Communists could not be trusted.
Does anyone really believe that China, which allowed this disease to become the out-of-control menace that could not be stopped, only had 3,300 deaths while the U.S. has more? Does anyone believe that Wuhan is that much more of a clean, orderly city than those we have here?
Intelligence officials transmitted a classified report of their findings to the White House last week. Bloomberg described its sources as saying that the report's main conclusion was that China's public reporting of coronavirus cases was "intentionally incomplete." Two officials told the outlet that it found that China's numbers were fake.
China was the center of the novel coronavirus outbreak until last week, when the US's number of cases of COVID-19, the illness caused by the virus, surpassed China's. The World Health Organization declared it a pandemic on March 11.
As of Wednesday, more than 885,000 people across the globe had been infected and more than 44,000 had died. China had reported 82,361 confirmed cases and 3,316 deaths, according to a database from Johns Hopkins University. The US had reported 190,089 positive cases and 4,102 deaths.
China’s reports are blatantly wrong. They are trying to save face, at the expense of the world. The A.P. reported as much as well:
Earlier Sunday, the Associated Press reported that U.S. officials believe China covered up the extent of the outbreak, in part, to stock up on medical supplies needed to respond to the virus.
What should we do about this harm that China has done to our country and the world? Should we forgive it and ignore the clear danger that Communist China poses?
President Trump won’t ignore it, and I agree with him. We need to bring our businesses here to America.
And as a member of the Arizona Senate, I intend to introduce a bill to sue China for damages to our state brought by China’s Coronavirus negligence, just as Missouri and other states have done. China has great possessions here, enough to offset the cost to our state and our people.
