Last week, Georgia was hit by Hurricane Helene, which wreaked havoc on the southern part of our nation. My heart goes out to all those affected by the devastation of Hurricane Helene, especially to the families who have tragically lost loved ones. The scale of destruction has been unimaginable, and my prayers are with the entire community as we begin to heal and rebuild. In Congress, I will continue working alongside my colleagues to provide the necessary resources and support to aid in the recovery process and help our communities emerge stronger. | September marked the 53rd Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference (ALC)! You can read about my panel here. | During ALC, I was honored to receive the first-ever Sapphire Award for Economic Empowerment from the American Investment Council and the National Association of Investment Companies, recognizing my work to close the racial wealth gap through entrepreneurship and equitable access to capital. This resolution follows reports on the tragic deaths of Amber Thurman and Candi Miller, who lost their lives because they couldn’t access legal abortions or timely medical care in Georgia.
