An Unsecure Border Makes an Unsecure Wisconsin

Image

In the past four years, over 8.2 million illegal immigrants have come across our southern border. The impacts of this open border continue to be felt all around our country.

This week, the Wall Street Journal highlighted how the immigration crisis has led to the straining of public resources here in Wisconsin. The article details how the failure to secure the southern border has led to a cartel running illegal operations in our community.

I will continue to push for action to address this issue, relieve the pressure on our communities, and keep Wisconsin families safe. Here are a few of my most recent actions.

I co-sponsored the Cartel and Radical Terrorist Enforcement Log (CARTEL) Act to help hinder cartels' ability to conduct illegal activities in our communities. Specifically, this legislation requires Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to report to Congress detailing which terrorist and cartel organizations are attempting to exploit our borders to move their members into the United States.

Additionally, I helped pass the No Bailout for Sanctuary Cities Act in the House of Representatives. This legislation makes sure that sanctuary cities, counties, and states that provide taxpayer funded benefits to illegal immigrants are ineligible for federal funds to make these payments.

We must ensure that our families remain safe, and I will continue my work to keep our community out of harms reach.

Meeting Our Future Workers

Image

High school students from Janesville, Beloit, Delavan, Milton, Clinton, Edgerton, Parkview, and other area schools attended the 8th Annual Construction Career Fair hosted at JP Cullen's in Janesville yesterday. It was a great opportunity for students to learn what the construction industry has to offer through mock-ups, hands-on demonstrations, and the chance to speak individually with apprenticeship recruiters from local building trades unions.

The event helped raise awareness for the trades and the opportunities high school students have after graduation. In attendance were some of the area's mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and plumbing trades.

I was glad to be able to attend this event and meet some of our future workers. Making sure our next generation of workers has all the tools for success is critical and I will continue my work to make sure that's the case.

Increasing Access to Life-Saving Medicines

Image

NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes, located right here in Beloit, is a global innovator in the development, production and commercialization of radiopharmaceuticals used to detect and treat cancer and other serious diseases.

This week, NorthStar unveiled a new radiopharmaceutical facility that will help accelerate and expand access to much-needed medicines for patients around the world. I was glad to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for this state-of-the-art facility and learn about the life-saving work being done in our community.

Thank You, Janesville Fire Department!

Hurricane Helene has left a trail of destruction across the Southeastern states, particularly in North Carolina. In its aftermath, people from around the country have offered to help the communities facing devastating losses.

To assist in the response and recovery efforts, sixteen members of Wisconsin's Urban Search and Rescue Task Force's swiftwater rescue team have been deployed to aid the search efforts in North Carolina's western portion. Including first responders from Janesville Fire Department.

We honor the commitment to service of our fire and rescue servicemembers during this catastrophic event. I am proud to know these individuals are going beyond the call of duty to help others.
