It is the effort of a broad coalition of some of the most far-right conservative organizations in the country who have come together to ensure that, if former President Donald Trump is re-elected in November, his administration will have the policy proposals and recommended personnel at its fingertips to begin re-shaping our nation in their image from ‘day one.'

Many of the groups, including the Heritage Foundation, who helped design Project 2025 have promoted policies that would cut Social Security by raising the retirement age, cutting the annual Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA), privatizing the program for the benefit of Wall Street and means testing benefits which would reduce middle-class beneficiaries.

While the former President has tried to disavow Project 2025 and its most radical policies, according to extensive research conducted by CNN, there are many people who served in Trump’s Administration who helped write or collaborated on this 900-page playbook for a second Trump term.

And while this plan doesn’t lay out specific “reforms” for Social Security, likely because some of the architects of Project 2025 understand the dangers of saying out loud where they really stand on this extremely popular program, it does include specific plans for Medicare, including accelerating the privatization of traditional Medicare by expanding Medicare Advantage (MA) plans.

Yet, MA plans cost taxpayers more than traditional Medicare, limit provider choice to beneficiaries, and have been caught denying prior authorizations for Medicare-covered services and have abused marketing practices.

And among other measures that would impact seniors, Project 2025 would also repeal critical drug pricing reforms passed in the last Congress that are helping to rein in seniors’ out-of-pocket prescription drug costs and save Medicare billions of dollars.

The organizations behind Project 2025 have promoted dismantling Social Security and Medicare for decades and will inevitably push to achieve their goals in the coming years.

As seniors who are counting on their earned benefits for a secure retirement, we must not allow ourselves to become complacent about Social Security and Medicare’s future; rather, we must continue advocating to preserve and strengthen these critical programs for today’s beneficiaries and future generations.
