Dear John,
L’shana tovah to everyone celebrating Rosh Hashanah this week! May your new year be filled with peace and joy.
This week began the first week of my October district work period, and I was so glad to be back home in Minnesota.
I’ve got an exciting update this week. Recently, I worked with local law enforcement to secure $1.1 million in federal funding to support their mission to keep our community safe.
This funding will be used to hire 6 new police officers across the Second District – in Apple Valley, Inver Grove Heights and Newport – as well as support law enforcement mental health resources in West St. Paul and the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association’s accreditation program.
In addition, we announced nearly $9 million in funding to hire 23 additional firefighters in Lakeville and with the South Metro Fire Department serving South St. Paul and West St. Paul. This funding will ensure our local fire departments have the necessary staff to build and grow and safely respond to emergency situations.
Bringing taxpayer dollars back to the Second District is an important part of my job as your representative and I will keep working with local stakeholders to get more direct investments in our community.
Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:
This week I spent some time at the Habitat for Humanity build in St. Paul with Mayor Melvin Carter and Shakopee Police Chief Jeff Tate - and my District Director, Garrison. We helped out on the construction of one of 35 new homes for Minnesota families. I grew up in a mobile home court and left from there to go to college — to me, affordable housing is about dignity. It was so inspiring to see folks come together to build a future for our neighbors. Thank you to everyone who played a part in this project.
Until next time,
Angie Craig
