A Message from Gabe:

Greetings Rhode Islanders,

Every year, from September 15th to October 15th, we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

For generations, Hispanic and Latino Rhode Islanders have contributed to our state — from the trailblazing elected and community leaders to the vibrant sounds of salsa and bachata dancing to the incredible aromas coming from the kitchens on La Broa’ or Dexter Street in Central Falls. In so many ways, the Latino community of Rhode Island helps make our state an incredible place to live.

That said, this month is not only about celebrating but also about looking forward. One top priority of mine is working to ensure we provide culturally competent healthcare for all Rhode Islanders that closes gaps in health outcomes. That means ensuring health care providers understand and respect different languages, traditions, and backgrounds so everyone gets the quality care they deserve.

I'm also focused on supporting minority-owned small businesses. Hispanic-owned businesses help create jobs, drive innovation, and make our neighborhoods stronger. I'm working hard to ensure small businesses have the resources and opportunities to grow and succeed.

Lastly, we need to continue investing in educational and workforce development opportunities for all. And no matter your background, we must expand access to public colleges, training programs, apprenticeships, and job opportunities so that everyone has the skills and support they need to thrive.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, let’s celebrate the richness of our communities. I'm committed to this work to lift everyone up as we build a Rhode Island where diversity is our strength and opportunities abound. If you're interested in our work or specific federal programs that may be available to you, please get in touch with my District office at (401) 729-5600 or email us at [email protected], and we'll be happy to work together.

Sincerely,

Member of Congress

The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced that, since the beginning of the year, American consumers have saved $2 billion in upfront costs on the purchase of more than 300,000 electric (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

These savings don’t just stop when the car is driven off the lot. New owners of electric vehicles can expect to save an average of $21,000 on fuel and maintenance costs over the car's lifespan compared to gasoline-powered cars.

These savings are the result of the Inflation Reduction Act, with over $2 billion in financial benefits for consumers at the point-of-sale for both new and used clean vehicle purchases.

Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA),
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced new cost savings for 54 prescription drugs under Medicare Part B.

Starting October 1, 2024, beneficiaries will see reduced prices for medications that have experienced price hikes exceeding inflation rates. The savings, as high as $3,854 per day, will make health care more affordable.

Honoring the Service of Rhode Island’s Heroes

Congressman Amo joined RI Secretary of State Gregg Amore and Mr. Ernie Almonte in sending off former U.S. Army Lt. John Wolf of East Providence (left) and retired Gen. Reginald Centracchio (right), who formerly served as commander of the Rhode Island National Guard.

I recently had the honor of recognizing the Rhode Island Fire Chiefs Honor Flight Hub on the House floor for their incredible work supporting our veterans. As part of their Honor Flight "High Voltage" on September 29th, I'm proud to highlight one of my constituents, U.S. Army Lieutenant John Wolf of East Providence, who served in Vietnam and earned a Bronze Star for his bravery.

It was a privilege to write him a letter for the "Mail Call" portion of the program, and it reminded me of how much more we can do to support veterans like Lieutenant Wolf. The PACT Act has already helped over 4,700 Rhode Island veterans access critical benefits, but more must be done. I'm committed to continuing this vital work on behalf of all who have served our country.
