Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament

There's still time to register for CND's conference at SOAS on Saturday, 12 October. We have a fantastic line up of speakers including MPs Jeremy Corbyn and Bell Ribeiro-Addy, arms trade expert and anti-Apartheid campaigner Andrew Feinstein, journalist and CND Vice-President Roger McKenzie, and many more!

Rising nuclear threats, conflicts caused by climate breakdown, and the latest technologies used in war zones are just some of the topics we'll cover in the world we want: a new agenda for peace and justice. Our panellists will also look at the future we want to see and how we get there - a world built on justice and equality, and that puts peace and planet first.

Take part in keep space for peace week, 5-12 October!

This Saturday is the start of keep space for peace week - a global week of action to raise awareness about the growing militarisation of space. On Wednesday, 9 October, CND, Space Watch UK, and Scientists for Global Responsibility will be outside the Ministry of Defence in London, to protest Britain's role in the militarising space, including the development of a US space war radar in Pembrokeshire and plans to launch military capable satellites into orbit from Scotland. Please join us if you can and make sure to bring banners and placards!

  • Wednesday, 9 October
  • 12noon to 1pm
  • Whitehall, on green space beside MoD building and across from Downing Street
  • More details here

Watch Threads with CND on 9 October

The devastating 1984 nuclear war docu-drama Threads returns to the BBC next week. It's only the fourth time in its 40-year history that the Corporation has aired the film - a harrowing and sobering look at the aftermath of a nuclear bomb being dropped on Sheffield and follows the lives of those still struggling to survive more than a decade after the blast. With nuclear dangers at their highest since the film's first screening, this is a timely reminder of why we protest and survive!

Please join CND in watching the film live and take part in the conversation on Twitter/X using the hashtag #Threads40!

  • Wednesday, 9 October
  • BBC 4, 10:15pm, details here

You can also listen to writer Jude Roger's recent radio documentary about Threads on BBC Sounds here
