John,
It’s been 12 months since the horrific attacks of October 7th. And this week, after a year of indiscriminate bombing in Gaza and increasing violence in the West Bank — aided by billions of dollars in U.S. funding — we watched in horror as Israel launched attacks in Lebanon, killing hundreds and plunging the region towards war.
We’ve known it doesn’t have to be this way. It STILL doesn’t.
On Monday, October 7th, we invite communities across the country to come together and grieve for each of the Israeli lives stolen from us a year ago, and each of the Palestinian and Lebanese lives stolen from us in the year since.

There are Every Life, A Universe gatherings in Boston, Chicago, DC, Los Angeles, New York, and Philadelphia — and other smaller community events likely to pop up across the country.
At the gatherings, we will mark one year since the Hamas-led attack in which over 1,100 Israelis were killed and hundreds more were taken hostage. We will mark one year of the Israeli government’s ongoing massacres in Gaza, which have killed at least 42,000 Palestinians — and countless more dead, buried under rubble, or at risk of starvation or disease.
We will call for an end to the Israeli government’s assault on Gaza — and to our own government’s enabling of it.
We will grieve for the hostages who didn’t and won’t make it out of Gaza alive and who have been abandoned by their government, and we will pray for the release of all Israelis and Palestinians held captive.
We will remember that even when the bombs stop falling and the captives are returned to their families, the only way to truly end the violence is by ending decades of occupation, apartheid, and siege.
Please join us and sign up for a memorial gathering for Israeli and Palestinian life on October 7th.

It’s time for us all to stand before corrupt, racist leaders — here and in Israel — who are exploiting grief to advance their violent agenda.
We know there is another way.
Let us mark the anniversary of the October 7th attacks with hearts big enough, and tears plentiful enough, to grieve those killed one year ago, those massacred in the year since, and those who suffered under war, occupation, apartheid, and siege for decades and decades before that fateful day.
On October 7th, and every day, let us commit to forge a new future together, grounded in equality, justice, and safety for all Palestinians and Israelis.
In solidarity,
Team WFP
