In a little over four weeks, our campaign will be put to the ultimate test at the polls, when voters will decide whether or not to defend democracy in VA-07 and across the nation or go down the dark path of MAGA authoritarianism.
With just weeks separating us from the most important election of our lifetimes, I wanted to take a moment today to remind you why I am in this fight to defend our district, Virginia, and our country from MAGA control.
My twin brother Alex and I were born in Soviet Ukraine to a Jewish family during the height of the Cold War. Like many other immigrant families, we came to this country searching for hope and had very humble beginnings. My father brought us here with just $759 in his pocket. It was not an easy life, but we achieved the American dream. When the time came, my brother and I were proud to join the military to serve our country.
After 25 years of dedicated service, everything changed for us when my brother, Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, heard President Trump threaten to block Ukraine’s military aid unless they investigated Joe Biden. We refused to stand by and decided to act. We reported the call up the chain of command.
Our values, decades of service to our nation, and obligation to perform our duty prepared us for the kind of courage it takes to report that call — even if it was at our own expense.
We refused to let Trump's abuse of his office stand, and he was impeached. His vengeance cost us our careers when we were fired in retaliation.
In the years since that phone call, we’ve seen Republicans go all-in on authoritarianism — the attempted coup of January 6th, Trump and his allies illegally meddling in fair elections, the GOP rolling back our fundamental rights. I couldnt sit by while our democracy is brought to its breaking point like this.
So with the hope of continuing to serve my country, I decided to run for Congress. I want you to know that you can always count on me to have the courage to do what's right for the people of Virginia, and this country — even if it's not the easy thing to do.
Now, with just weeks until the election, I am asking for your help. Because the only way we can fight MAGA extremism, defend our democracy, and protect our nation’s future is if we win this race, and flip the House majority blue this November. And I simply cannot win without you by my side.
