John,
I come from a family of coal miners. We were coal miners in Ireland, and when my great grandparents immigrated to the United States, they became miners in Pennsylvania’s coal country.
When he was fifteen, my grandfather, Pop-Pop, had his leg run over by a coal car. He was rushed to the hospital and the doctors were going to amputate. Thankfully, the doctors were able to save his leg.

After his accident, my grandfather stayed in the hospital for four months. Four months. Can you imagine how much a four-month hospital stay would cost today? Nowadays, a child having an accident or a parent getting injured at work could force a family to take on serious debt. Some even face bankruptcy.
We fought to pass the Affordable Care Act so families don’t have to live in fear that an accident or injury could put them into crippling debt. Unfortunately, our own Representative Paul Cook didn’t just refuse to support the Affordable Care Act, he voted to repeal it. He voted to strip health insurance from 100,000 people in our district. It’s completely unacceptable.
What’s worse? Rep. Paul Cook, Trump, and their Republican allies are still going after the Affordable Care Act. Senator Lindsey Graham even “promised” they’d repeal the ACA if Republicans manage to take back the House in 2020.
There’s a lot at stake in this race, John, but nothing as crucial as our effort to ensure that healthcare is finally treated like a human right in this country. That’s what this race is about.
Health care access is a fight I’ll never give up on, and I’m thankful to have you by side.
Chris
