Boozhoo John,
On Oct. 4, 1990, the Indian Environmental Regulatory Enhancement Act became law, which authorized grants to help the tribes regulate environmental quality on tribal lands.
This was a big step that allowed tribes to protect our respected plants, animals, waters, and natural places in a way that was consistent with our cultures. Most importantly, this law was an important acknowledgement of tribal sovereignty.
We must carry on the legacy of those who came before us who worked to protect our lands and our waters. You can continue that legacy by voting on Tuesday, Nov. 5 in the General Election.
Participating in any election and casting your vote means you are speaking for our waters, honoring our ancestors who fought for our freedom, and protecting the seventh generation.
Our people have a long history of fighting for our rights and the rights of nature, so let's continue that history today. We must put the plants, animals, trees, and waters before ourselves because they will sustain us into the future.
On Tuesday, Nov. 5 you can vote for presidential, congressional, state offices, and a constitutional amendment. You have the choice to elect the next leaders who will make decisions about our natural places, our waters, tribal sovereignty, and more.
