Folks, this week I went back to high school.

The ninth-period AP U.S. Government and Politics class at Hoboken High School graciously let me join them to discuss my proposal to allow 16 and 17-year-olds to vote in their local school board elections.

Allowing students to vote for the folks who make decisions about their own education is just common sense — plus, it will start getting our youngest voters engaged in the civic process and develop the habit of voting ahead of their 18th birthday.

Trust me, the students I met this week are sharp, thoughtful, and deserve to have a say in their own futures. If enacted, New Jersey would be the first state in the nation to allow teens to vote in their local elections. Let’s lead the way for the rest of the country on this.

Friend, do you support my proposal to allow 16 and 17 year olds to vote in their local school board elections? Let me know: [[link removed]]

Thanks for your thoughts,

Phil

Phil Murphy is hard at work on policies to rebuild the American Dream right here in New Jersey.
He’s cutting taxes, creating jobs, funding schools, and expanding opportunity — but he’s not alone. Stronger Fairer Forward exists to support that vision. Together, we’ll create more opportunities and revitalize the middle class.
