Hurricane Helene has killed at least 204 people as it traveled from Florida through Georgia and into North Carolina, leaving entire towns and cities without power, lacking access to food, and residents unable to access vital evacuation routes due to flooding and washouts. 

Make no mistake: Big Oil has known for decades that storms like these would happen due to their contributions to climate change.

We are at a crossroads: Are we going to elect someone who cozies up to Big Oil and promises to open up public lands for drilling, privatize the weather service, and reduce disaster funding? Or will we put Kamala Harris, a proven climate champion, in the Oval Office to protect our families, our communities, and our future?

The cost of inaction is too high. Hurricane Helene has impacted the lives of millions of people from the Gulf to Appalachia, including Sierra Club staff, volunteers, our families, and friends. Storms will only grow worse in frequency and ferocity unless we reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. This election, we have the powerful opportunity to stand behind Harris, a candidate who champions environmental justice with a proven track record of climate action.
